Isabel Sem’s Journey: Celebrating a Legacy Through Her New Memoir

by FSM

It has finally arrived. Isabel Sem’s book titled “Remembering Seems a Holy Thing: My Memoir.”

“Who is Isabel Sem,” you ask?

She has been an influential figure in Frisco for a long time. Mrs. Sem has worn many hats in her quest to shape the community, from the school crossing guard and classroom volunteer to the first female school board member. Mrs. Sem embodies what every growing community needs: a selfless crusader who has the people’s best interests at heart.

Isabel Sem is a role model for public service and a champion for children. She and her family moved to Frisco in 1974 when she became involved in the Young Homemakers and the Parent Teacher Association. Encouraged to seek office, she became the first female school board member in 1977. She focused on providing a much-needed voice for teachers, as she helped them obtain the resources they needed to succeed. She served until 1986, during a time of major accomplishments, including the hiring of Dr. Justin Wakeland as Superintendent of Schools and the building of Rogers Elementary. She served again briefly in 1996 to finish the term for a member who had to move. During that year, Dr. Rick Reedy was hired as Superintendent.

She also served on the Citizen’s Bond Committees, co-chairing two successful campaigns in 1995 and 1998. She was a founding board member of the Frisco Education Foundation, a board member of the Frisco Heritage Association, and a volunteer at her local church. In 2006, she was honored to have Isabel Pierce Sem Elementary School, located at 12721 Honey Grove Drive in Frisco, named after her.

Now, she is excited to present her new book. In her book, she shares the relationships and experiences God placed on her path. “Each person helped me grow my self-confidence, ability to be a leader, and taught me that everyone wants to help; they just need to be asked. I, too, needed guidance, and God was always there to walk beside me. Watch for Him in my story. Some may be the same as yours,” Ms. Sem says.
