by FSM
in Open
Compiled by Amy Kryzak
Volunteering is a terrific way to get involved with the community, as residents can – and often do – make a difference. In the final installment of Frisco STYLE’s exclusive digital series What Every Newcomer Should Know, learn about several ways new and longtime Frisco residents can lend a hand to support city government as well as various local organizations.
City of Frisco
The City of Frisco often needs volunteers to help staff special events such as Freedom Fest and Merry Main Street, as well to assist local government departments with daily duties such as re-shelving library books and completing filing work. friscotexas.gov/226/volunteer
Frisco Family Services
The nonprofit organization Frisco Family Services serves a wide range of clients – from those experiencing an unforeseen crisis to seniors struggling to make ends meet. FFS offers a variety of opportunities to volunteer within the community, such as sorting items in the food pantry, assisting with light office work and lending a hand with fundraising efforts. friscofamilyservices.org
Frisco Humane Society
The nonprofit Frisco Humane Society is an all-volunteer, foster-home based, no-kill animal rescue organization. friscohumanesociety.com
National Breast Cancer Foundation
Frisco is the headquarters of the National Breast Cancer Foundation, which is committed to bringing help and hope to those affected by the disease. Volunteer opportunities include packing HOPE kits for women who are undergoing treatment, organizing supplies and staffing fundraising events, among others. nationalbreastcancer.org or email Ashley Miller at amiller@nbcf.org
Legacy Humane Society
Dedicated to helping unwanted, abandoned and lost dogs in North Texas, Legacy Humane Society focuses on finding animals proper care and loving forever homes. Volunteers are always needed. legacyhumanesociety.org
