Fire Chief Mark Piland moved to Frisco in 2013. He is responsible for all fire and rescue activities for the department as well as fire prevention, development and community education. He also serves as the community’s emergency management coordinator. He is a member of the Delta Omega Honor Society for Public Health.
Chief Piland received special recognition as Task Force Leader on behalf of Va. Task Force 2 (a FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Team) by President Obama for his response in the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. He received the Medal of Honor from the Va. Fire Department for earthquake response to Haiti as Task Force Leader for VATF-2 in 2010. He was recognized by a Va. Congressman and FEMA director for his response to the Pentagon on 9/11 in VATF-2. Special recognition was also given by the Va. Beach Fire Department for two responses to Hurricane Katrina as Task Force Leader for VATF-2.
