Excitement was in the air – along with a hot-air balloon and the sounds of the Wakeland High School drumline – during a groundbreaking ceremony held June 3 for supermarket chain.
H-E-B’s much-anticipated Frisco store.
The event was attended by local elected officials and H-E-B executives who turned shovels of dirt at the future site of the 111,000-square-foot store, near the intersection of Main Street and Legacy Drive, which is scheduled to open its doors in fall 2022.
A similar ceremony is scheduled June 4 for a second H-E-B store in Collin County, which will be built at Preston Road and Spring Creek Parkway in Plano.
“We’re extremely excited to strengthen our commitment to the DFW Metroplex and provide the Frisco and Plano communities the best H-E-B has to offer. … This H-E-B store will allow us to answer the long-standing call for an H-E-B in this growing community,” Juan-Carlos Ruck, executive vice president of North West Food/Drug, said in a press release.
The Frisco store, which is expected to employ more than 400 people, will feature a full-service pharmacy with a drive-thru, a bakery that will turn out H-E-B’s popular fresh-made tortillas, a selection of sushi crafted in-store daily and a True Texas BBQ restaurant, which Texas Monthly Magazine crowned the best barbecue in the chain in the state.
During the groundbreaking event, several H-E-B executives took to the podium and spoke about the company’s “Spirit of Giving” philosophy and commitment to assisting the communities its stores serve before presenting $10,000 checks to each of five Frisco nonprofit organizations. Recipients of the donations were Frisco Arts Foundation, Boys & Girls Club Frisco, VFW Post 8273, Frisco FastPacs and Frisco Family Services.
