Frisco Family Services Market is scheduled to host its biannual food drive from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at the market, located at 9085 Dogwood St., next to Frisco Resale.
The market, which is the city’s only community food pantry, served nearly 4,000 people during the past year and provided more than 592,000 meals.
The need for food by Frisco residents and Frisco ISD neighbors is significant, especially during the summer months when students are out of school and the food pantry’s shelves are empty.
Currently, FFS Market requests donations of the following items:
Pasta sauce (all varieties)
Canned meats (such as tuna, chicken, Spam)
Boxed meal helpers (such as Hamburger and Tuna Helper)
Mac and cheese
All varieties of hot and cold cereal
Ramen noodles
Assorted baking mixes
Condiments (such as mayonnaise, ketchup, salad dressing, relish)
Seasonings - all varieties
Sandwich bread
Boxed snacks
Small juice boxes
Bottled water
Full-size toiletries (such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash/bath soap, deodorant, facial cleanser)
Feminine hygiene products
Household cleaners (including surface cleaners, disinfectants and dishwashing soap)
Donations should be brought to the FFS Market during Saturday’s food drive, or during its operating hours of operating hours of 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesdays. Frisco Resale also accepts FFS Market donations during its regular Saturday store hours.
FFS Market was recently rebranded “to better serve our community and those who need our assistance,” according to Frisco Family Services. “This rebranding reflects a heartfelt consideration for the health, safety and respect for our neighbors during an unexpected crisis. Now, Frisco Family Services Market better portrays the experience families and individuals are used to when shopping in a grocery store.”
The market’s no-cost, client-choice service model is designed to maintain the anonymity and dignity of clients by allowing them to personally choose the food and other items that they need.
An expanded, more-efficient produce section at the market offers clients greater access to nutritious fruits and vegetables. The space and new produce fixtures “will help … produce stay fresh longer thus reducing waste and will enable us to display and store more produce appropriately.”
An online Market Express shopping alternative was added during the pandemic as an option for those who are ill, not comfortable shopping in person or have limited time to shop due to their work schedules. With access to the online shopping list, clients can make their selections and schedule a time to pick up the items, which are loaded into vehicles by volunteers. Meanwhile, seniors and those who lack access to transportation or do not drive may access the Mobile Market home-delivery service.
