Caramel Apple Dip

INGREDIENTS

Ingredients
    r

  • 3 lbs apples
  • r

  • 1 cup apple cider or juice
  • r

  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • r

  • 1/2 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
  • r

  • 1/2 tsp cloves
  • r

  • 1/2 tsp allspice
  • r

For the caramel
    r

  • 1 Tbsp butter
  • r

  • 1 Tbsp brown sugar
  • r

  • 1 Tbsp maple syrup
  • r

  • 1/4 tsp kosher salt
  • r

  • 1 Tbsp milk or cream
  • r

INSTRUCTIONS

    r

  1. To make the apple butter, place the apples, juice and spices in large heavy-bottomed stock pan.
  2. r

  3. Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce heat and let it simmer for 1-2 hours, until the apples have broken down.
  4. r

  5. Using an immersion blender, blend the apples together until they are smooth (or do this in batches in your blender or food processor).
  6. r

  7. Return the mixture to the pan. Let it simmer for another hour or until it has thickened and reduced by half, being sure to stir the mixture frequently.
  8. r

  9. At this time, stir in the warm caramel until the mixture is well-combined.
