Lucky for us, Frisco is always innovating and reinventing itself. Best chance to see a shooting star: Frisco StarFest
rThe stars at night are truly big and bright here in Texas! At Frisco StarFest, which takes place at Frisco Commons Park, on the second Saturday of every month, people who are interested in stargazing or learning a few things about our vast universe can head to the park and indulge their curiosity.
Frisco StarFest is one of four standing events that the Texas Astronomical Society (TAS) hosts across the metroplex every month. The group started the events with the hope of providing the general public with a standard set of times and places to enjoy the night sky views through TAS observational equipment. Doug Slanksy, the public observing coordinator for the TAS, says, “The volunteers are well-versed in what they are observing, and the discussion with the general public includes information regarding the observing targets, as well as the equipment being used.” During spring and summer months, there can be anywhere from 200-300 people at this unique Frisco event. Volunteer groups can be between 10-15 people for the busier nights, so lines can be long to view through the equipment brought out by the TAS. You are welcome to bring your own gear, but all that is required to participate is a set of eyeballs and eagerness to learn. This event is truly out of this world.r
Best place to meet for a drink: Frisco Sip, Shop, Rock and Stroll
rThree years ago, stores in old downtown Frisco wanted to do something special to bring additional awareness to the historic area, draw in shoppers and host an event that residents could enjoy and look forward to, year after year. So, Sip, Shop, Rock and Stroll was born! Different stores had been doing promotional events individually, but this unique event coordinates several shops and places of business, all in one fun night out on the town!
JoAnn Fritz of Blue Door Boutique says, “Residents can sip, shop and stroll the downtown area without ever moving their car.” Each store has different giveaways for the evening and some stores even have live music. Every store provides some sort of bite to eat or refreshments. Better yet, the event benefits Frisco Family Services. There were boxes set up at each store for food and monetary donations last year and before that, a portion of the night’s proceeds were donated by the stores. The event can draw between 150 and 300 people, so it is a great social event and an entertaining way to mingle with your neighbors and local businesspeople. Be sure to join local establishments like Blue Door Boutique, Twisted Simplicity, School of Rock, Bittersweet Ivy, Lillian Welch, The Blushing Bride Boutique, Eight 11 and Stan’s Main Street for a wonderful night out later this year.
