by FSM
in Dining

by Ashli Urano

As the new year begins, it’s the perfect time to savor Frisco’s irresistible breakfast- and brunch-dining scene. From traditional dishes to decadent pastries and flavorful coffee, there are plenty of great places to enjoy the most important meal of the day.
Whether it’s a trendy new spot in the heart of the city or a hidden gem tucked away in a quiet neighborhood shopping center, Frisco has no shortage of fantastic restaurants. These eateries offer a range of options for early risers as well as those in search of a leisurely weekend brunch. Grab a cup of coffee and let’s dive into this non-inclusive list of favorite local breakfast hotspots.

 The Aussie Grind

3930 Preston Road Suite 120
469-428-0966
www.theaussiegrind.com

Owned by Angie and Lui Monforte, who are originally from Brisbane, this upscale Australian-inspired cafe serves mouthwatering items with an innovative twist. Hotcakes with maple-poached peaches are topped with vanilla ice cream and house berry compote before being sprinkled with cheesecake crumbs. Another favorite is a hand-rolled potato gnocchi dish tossed with baby spinach, sautéed bacon, Spanish onion and sage, topped with poached eggs and grated Parmesan cheese.

 Barney’s Brunch House

5480 FM 423 Suite 700
214-494-6363
www.barneysbrunch.house

Barney’s made-from-scratch menu is perfectly crafted for hungry brunchers. This family friendly restaurant offers an aray of sweet and savory dishes that include white chocolate raspberry pancakes and strawberry Nutella French toast. The Benedict standouts with perfectly poached eggs include the Chicken Benny with fried chicken and mini waffles topped with jalapeno gravy; as well as the Voodoo Benny with avocado, chorizo and cheddar topped with salsa Verde.

 Berries & Batter Cafe

2727 Main St. Suite 600
214-407-7112
berriesandbattercafe.com

The décor at this family owned cafe is light and airy, producing a fun, carefree vibe. Begin brunch with the $40 mimosa flight served with chilled champagne and four types of freshly squeezed juice. The Banana Nutella Waffles are topped with banana slices and a Nutella drizzle, then dusted with confectioner’s sugar. There is also a children’s playground area and the patio is dog-friendly.

Biscuit

3401 Preston Road Suite 16
469-388-1144
www.biscuitbreakfastlunch.com

The sizeable menu at Biscuit has something for everyone. Not only does it feature gourmet salads, sandwiches, burgers, wraps and paninis, there is a long list of nearly every classic breakfast dish one can think of. The wildly popular Beer Biscuits can be topped with an array of ingredients including chicken breast and honey butter or homemade sausage gravy with eggs and hash browns.

Cracked & Crepe

8050 Preston Road Suite 107
469-481-6163
www.crackedandcrepe.com

With successful locations in Aubrey and Flower Mound, this local chain opened in Frisco late last year. Its “modern yet traditional” take on breakfast and lunch continues to push the popularity of its concept. The Chicken Florentine Crepe (chicken breast, spinach, mushroom, onion, Parmesan, hollandaise) comes with a choice of hash browns, grits or fresh fruit.

Eggsquisite Café

6801 Warren Parkway Suite 101
469-200-8181
www.eggsquisitecafefrisco.com

If you’re hankering for Lingon Berry crepes, head to Eggsquisite Café where they are made with a sauce “specially imported from Sweden.” Also on the menu is a Rice Krispie French toast that is drizzled with caramel sauce; Oreo pancakes topped with blintz frosting; and Hummus Avocado Toast served on thick-cut multigrain toast layered with eggs. Wash it all down with a Screwdriver (freshly squeezed orange juice and vodka) or a Rossini (prosecco and strawberry puree).

 Frisco Diner

9250 Dallas Parkway
214-618-0652

Frisco Diner is small in size, yet big on taste. With an extensive menu, it is impressive to find so many dishes bursting with flavor. The diner’s signature fluffy buttermilk pancakes are lightly dusted with powdered sugar and served with whipped butter and syrup. The challah bread French toast has several topping options including fresh berries, banana Nutella and sweet mascarpone with vanilla and blackberry glaze.

Maple Street Biscuit Company

3288 Main St. Suite 111
469-803-5334
www.maplestreetbiscuits.com/frisco

Serving what it describes as “fresh made buscuits with a twist,” the menu at the Frisco location of this Southern U.S. chain includes The Squawking Goat, a biscuit topped with battered chicken strips, toasted goat cheese and scratch-made sweet pepper jelly. There are also waffles, “Frittaffles” (cast-iron baked omlets), and the Three Layer Cake comprised of hash browns with cheddar cheese, a fried egg and gravy.

 The Nest Cafe

7777 Warren Parkway Suite 325
469-579-4790
www.nestcafe.net

This stylish café has been a hit since arriving on the scene in 2017. The menu features a variety of creative options including an avocado-bacon chipotle grilled cheese with Texas brioche bread. Another winning dish is Nest’s buttermilk pancakes that rest beneath bananas and candied bacon, which are also drizzled with Bananas Foster sauce. Each item’s plating elevates the dishes to exciting levels.

 Poached Brunch House

1612 FM 423 Suite 300
www.poachedbrunchhouse.com

This family owned restaurant offers an intimate setting, helping to make customers instantly feel at home. The cozy vibe makes it seem as though you’ve dropped by a neighbor’s for breakfast. Poached Brunch House has a creative menu that also includes healthy selections such as an acai berry bowl and blueberry crumble parfait. The shrimp and grits with smoked bacon, over-easy eggs and pico de gallo is a dish you don’t want to miss.

 Snooze, an A.M. Eatery

9169 Dallas Parkway Suite 120
469-830-9650
www.snoozeeatery.com

The Denver-based company’s Frisco location is thriving after opening last fall. Along with a variety of cold-pressed juices and an impressive Bloody Mary selection, Snooze offers everything from pineapple upside-down pancakes to banana bread French toast. The wildly popular Smashed Avocado Benny features an English muffin topped with avocado, marinated tomatoes, poached cage-free eggs, Parmesan and smoked cheddar hollandaise sauce.

UP Inspired Kitchen

5285 Dallas Parkway Suite 400
469-579-4197
www.upinspiredkitchen.com

UP features a health-conscious menu that boasts responsibly sourced ingredients. This also includes made-from-scratch vegan, dairy and gluten-free dishes. A crowd-favorite is the short rib hash with caramelized onion, roasted potatoes, fried eggs and au jus. Chef-prepared “Eat UP Meals’’ are available, providing nutrient-packed options for eating on the go.
