A Berry Tasty Meal

by FSM
in Dining

by Ashli Urano

For many people, there is no meal more sacred than brunch — and an eatery’s ambiance can be just as important as the cuisine that is served. Thankfully, Berries & Batter Café, located on Main Street and Teel Parkway in Frisco, succeeds at both.
Everything about the dining room is light and airy, producing a fun, carefree atmosphere. Walking past the bar, a white wall showcases a mural of a skateboarder surrounded by colorful butterflies. </p

A small menu listing signature brunch cocktails was placed on the table at our turquoise booth. We went with our server Brittany’s recommendation of a Bloody Mary, which is served with the traditional celery and lime as well as crispy bacon, green olives, pepperoni and cheddar cheese cubes.
We also ordered a traditional mimosa, although this place offers them in several flavors including watermelon, cranberry and grapefruit. (Or opt for the $40 mimosa flight: a bottle of chilled champagne served with four types of freshly squeezed juice.)</p

While Berries & Batter Café serves plenty of classic dishes, a lot on its menu is quite unique. For example, pancakes are available in a variety of mouthwatering options including Cheesecake pancakes and Oreo pancakes served with a sweet, creamy icing.
We ordered the B&B Pancakes, featuring bright blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and blackberries drizzled with a homemade berry glaze, dusted with confectioner’s sugar and finished with a dollop of mascarpone cheese.

The Banana Nutella Waffles — with fresh banana slices, a Nutella drizzle and confectioner’s sugar — was a fantastic combination of flavors. We also sampled the crepes filled with lingonberries, which offered bites bursting with a slightly sweet-yet-tart, sour taste.
Decadence is what makes Eggs Benedict the star of any brunch table. We tried both the Crab Cake and Smoked Salmon versions of this staple dish (both served with hash browns) and preferred the former. Topped with a thick layer of creamy hollandaise sauce and a sprinkling of chives, the two poached eggs rested atop a lightly fried crab cake that was served over a tomato slice on a round of warm pita bread.

The grilled Chicken Apple Pecan Salad also popped off the menu. Dressed in a fat-free raspberry vinaigrette, the mix of fresh greens and grilled chicken is tossed with juicy Granny Smith apples, dried cranberries, candied pecans and feta cheese.
We also tried the veggie burger. Adding a fried egg definitely upped the game of this Beyond Meat patty. Served with French fries, it’s topped with lettuce, tomato and onion. (Be sure to request a slice of cheddar cheese.)

Brittany recommended the Venetian Chicken Panini, which she said is a favorite of many Berries & Batter Café regulars.
The roasted red pepper, spinach and tomato became one after gently melting with the feta cheese. Served on focaccia bread schmeared with pesto mayo, with each tender bite of chicken breast we were sad to see this tasty sandwich come to an end.</p
