For my husband, Zach, and I, The Shops at Legacy has long been a date night destination of choice. It has an abundance of places to go when it comes to trendy bars, upscale boutiques and unique and popular restaurants with an incredibly fun atmosphere. If you have not been to The Shops at Legacy during the holiday season, go! The gorgeous holiday decorations and lights are so festive. When we heard that the ever-popular Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House brought its fourth North Texas location to The Shops at Legacy, we knew where our next date night would be! Having already eaten at the luxurious and swanky Del Frisco’s Steak House, we were excited to see what Del Frisco’s Grille had to offer in terms of its atmosphere and food selection, and we were not disappointed.
The goal of Del Frisco’s Grille is to offer a stylish and unique dining experience with an inviting and vibrant atmosphere. The menu features innovative twists on classic comfort foods, utilizing fresh ingredients and local flair. Del Frisco’s Grille takes the classic American bar and grill concept to refreshing new heights, drawing inspiration from sophisticated, industrial and modern ambiances where people can be and be seen.
We made reservations for 8 p.m. on a chilly Saturday evening, and we were not surprised to find the sidewalks of The Shops at Legacy bustling and the valet line a few cars deep. The restaurant is located at the corner of Bishop and Lunsford Roads, and the valet is located just around the corner. It is just across from Taco Diner and Cru Wine Bar and only steps away from other exciting attractions.
Patrons can enter the restaurant through a large glass door or a large revolving glass door. Guests are transported into the spacious and sophisticatedly trendy foyer that sets the tone of the restaurant and the overall experience, touting warm tones and various textures. The wall to the right of the entrance displays high-end bottles of liquor behind intricately designed wrought iron doors. To the left of the liquor, high-end bottles of wine are encased in a gorgeous, modern glass display wall. The hostess stand is located on the other side of the foyer, under a large, fabulously chic print of a Christian Louboutin high heel shoe.
We checked in with the hostess before being promptly seated at a booth in a dining area between the large bar and the exciting kitchen. As you pass through the foyer, to the right, there is a large dining area comprised of booths and tables. The booths are intimate half-circles, line the outer wall of the room and are lit by large, modern geometrical fixtures that only add to the stylish feel of the restaurant. The back wall of this room has another gorgeous glass wall display of the large selection of wine offered. Just past the foyer, to the left, is the bar area. It is complete with a large, well-stocked, “U”-shaped bar and an area for bar seating at high-top tables with a flat screen television. Long, cylindrical light fixtures hang from the tall ceilings in this area, and there is a bar ledge on the partition wall that overlooks the dining area between the bar and the kitchen. The entire spacious bar area is a great place to dine, hang out while waiting on a table or grab a drink before venturing somewhere else during a night out at The Shops at Legacy.
We dined in the middle of all of the action among other booths that had great views of the restaurant’s modern design, architecture, décor and busy kitchen. The kitchen is located along the back wall of the restaurant and diners can easily see the many chefs running around preparing amazing food. Booths line each side of the section with an almost catwalk-like middle aisle for diners and waiters. Each table in this section is individually lit with huge spherical glass fixtures that add an industrial feel to the section. Hanging high above our dining section on the ceiling was an ultra-modern instillation of rows of light wood beams, which was a great contrast to the dark hues and metals seen throughout the rest of the restaurant. Del Frisco’s Grille also has a wonderful patio area at the front of the restaurant and an upstairs dining area above the bar.
After we were settled in at our table, our knowledgeable waiter greeted us and excitedly told us about both food and drink menu favorites. Del Frisco’s Grille boasts a large wine selection from all over the country and around the world. It also features an impressive list of specialty cocktails, including their signature drink, the VIP ($10.50), made of sweet Hawaiian pineapple and infused SVEDKA Clementine Vodka. Also on the menu is the Apt 5D ($11), a sweet concoction of Tito’s Vodka, muddled strawberries, lemon sour, simple syrup and a dash of balsamic. Guests can try the seasonal Dutch Mule ($12) or the seasonal Sangria Pop ($11.50), which boasts a sangria popsicle with white sangria. I decided on a Moscow Mule ($8.50), which was light, crisp and ice cold, made of ginger beer, Russian vodka, lime juice and mint. Zach decided on a refreshing (and never disappointing) Tito’s vodka and Sprite® ($9).
With a wide variety of delicious looking dishes on the “Food to Fight Over” appetizer menu, we turned to our waiter to help us narrow down our selections. He let us know about a few popular choices, including the Ahi Tacos ($14.50), the Jumbo Lump Crab Cake ($16) (this crab cake is baked, not fried, which sets it apart from others) and the Deviled Eggs ($8). We ultimately decided on a crowd favorite — the Cheesesteak Egg Rolls ($11), and we quickly understood why they are so popular! The egg rolls are a fantastic combination of Asian and American flavors, as the crispy egg rolls are filled with tender strips of steak and copious amounts of flavorful cheese. The egg rolls were perfectly fried, leaving the wrappers crispy and crunchy, which provided the perfect texture to compliment the soft, rich filling. The dish is served with both sweet and spicy chili sauce, and there is honey mustard drizzled under the egg rolls. Though I had my doubts, the combination of these sauces was insanely flavorful and they fully complimented the inventive Asian-American inspired dish. We finished the Cheesesteak Egg Rolls almost embarrassingly fast (they were that good), and decided to split the Chopped Caesar Salad ($9.50), which was a nice contrast to the warm egg rolls because it was served chilled, well-dressed and topped with garlic croutons.
After we finished the exquisite salad, we were excited to set our sights on the entrée menu. It had plenty of sections to peruse through, including Flatbreads, Big Greens (dinner salads), Two-Fisted Sandwiches, Knife and Fork options, Surf (seafood) and Signature Steaks. Notable items on the dinner menu include the Steakhouse Salad ($18.50), the Shaved Prime Steak Sandwich ($17), the Prime Beef Short Rib Stroganoff ($28), Sliced Ahi Tuna ($29.50) the Filet Mignon (eight ounces for $37 or 12 ounces for $45) and, of course, the 16-ounce Prime Rib New York Strip ($44). Del Frisco’s Grille also offers weekday specials, including General Tso’s Chicken ($17) on Wednesdays and Baby Back Ribs ($25) on Thursdays.
Zach eventually decided on the eight-ounce filet mignon with a side of mashed potatoes. The steak was a gorgeous and thick cut of meat. It was seasoned well and cooked perfectly to his medium-rare liking. The mashed potatoes were light and creamy and served as a great side for the popular filet.
I decided on the Simply Roasted Chicken ($24), which was served with hand-mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus and a rich chicken jus. It was a very simple meal, as its name describes, but the flavors and quality of the food made it superb.
Though we were stuffed full, you know better than to think I am going to pass on dessert! Del Frisco’s Grille has a dessert menu with a number of decadent and sinful choices, including the Coconut Cream Pie ($10.50), Nutella® Bread Pudding ($9), Lemon Doberge Cake ($10.50) and even the Adult Milkshake ($11) made up of Nocello Walnut Liqueur, Crème de Cacao, chocolate liqueur and vanilla ice cream. We saw quite a few of the desserts pass our table, and each one of the presentations was quite impressive. Because Zach is not a huge dessert fan and I am a self-professed “chocoholic,” he let me choose. My eyes darted past the other choices and went straight to the Warm Chocolate Cake ($9.50) served with vanilla bean ice cream and raspberry sauce. Within my first bite, I knew I was in heaven. The presentation was classy, simple and elegant, and the cake was rich and simply decadent with a warm, melted center. Heaven, I tell you. The cold vanilla bean ice cream hit the spot, contrasting the warm temperature of the cake. It was a perfect end to our fabulous meal.
Del Frisco’s Grille offers an extensive lunch (served from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday through Saturday) and a brunch menu (served on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.). The lunch menu features a “Grab A Pair” option ($12) that lets patrons try any personal size flatbread, half of a Chicken Avocado Wrap, half of a Bahn Mi sandwich or two Fish Tacos with the choice of a Mixed Green Salad, Caesar Salad or a cup of soup. There are a few other options offered that are not on the dinner menu, including the Brick Chicken ($15). The brunch menu features many classic favorites, including the Red Velvet Belgian Waffles ($12.50), Crabcake Benedict ($16), Chicken-Fried Steak and Eggs ($16), the Southern Fried Chicken and Waffles ($15.50) and Bananas Foster French Toast ($12.50). There is even the option for a Build-Your-Own Bloody Mary ($7), Screwdriver ($6), Mimosa ($5) or Red Sangria ($6). Each of the brunch drinks can be served by the glass or in a carafe for the table to share.
Del Frisco’s Grille hit the nail on the head by taking the American bar and grill concept and turning it up a notch. The atmosphere is electric, the décor and vibe are equal parts casual and stylishly chic and the food is flavorful, inventive and exciting. Whether you are looking for a casual lunch vibe, a weekend date destination or a late night hot spot, Del Frisco’s Grille is all of the above. It has found a great new home amidst the other restaurants located at The Shops at Legacy.
