It is no secret Frisco has experienced astronomical growth in recent years, and it looks like things are not slowing down any time soon! Perhaps the most magical part about such growth, though, is the city’s ability to keep its “small town” feel, no matter the number of people or businesses added over the years. We have grown so much that Frisco even topped out the 2016-2017 U.S. Census Bureau’s list of fastest-growing cities, as Frisco’s population increased 8.2 percent between July 1, 2016 and July 1, 2017. In total, the city added 13,470 new people to its population during that time period.
Frisco continues to accommodate and celebrate everything that has made it what it is today. City Administration
Frisco’s City Hall and Public Library are two staples when one thinks of Frisco, especially given the grandiose building that serves as the backdrop to so many fun Frisco events! The George A. Purefoy Municipal Center houses Frisco City Hall on the west side and the Frisco Public Library on the east side of the facility. Here, newcomers can find city offices and departments and even a program called “City Hall 101” that allows citizens a behind-the-scenes look at how various city services operate!
The Frisco ISD is one of the driving forces behind our city’s growth in recent years, as it is one of the fastest-growing school districts in the nation welcoming new students every day! Families choose to call Frisco home due the school district’s outstanding academic reputation, their ability to know students by name and for the endless opportunities available to students in grades K-12. With more than 68 schools and 58,000 students, the FISD does a phenomenal job of maintaining its “small school” structure and truly serving students.
In maintaining the notion that Frisco truly has something for everyone, Frisco’s Senior Center offers a variety of fun and educational programs for local senior citizens. The Senior Center at Frisco Square is a 17,000-square-foot space where seniors enjoy a sun-lit library, game room, state-of-the-art fitness center, computer room with Internet access, as well as an aerobics room, craft room and billiards table. Membership is at no cost to Frisco residents and transportation is available.
Organizations
Frisco residents take pride in what a close-knit community we have and the various organizations that serve areas of the community. Frisco is also home to many local chapters of larger organizations new residents can look into joining.
The American Legion Post 178 meets at the Frisco Senior Center on the third Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. for both the Post and Ladies Auxiliary. The American Legion Post 178 provides support and service to active duty military, veterans and their families in the Frisco area and serves to educate children on the value and importance of Americanism and patriotism.
For those looking to better themselves, Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) Frisco meets at Stonebriar Community Church on a varied schedule, while providing a place for AA’s recovery program and fellowship. The Frisco group embraces AA’s three areas of unity, service and recovery while following the Twelve Traditions of AA and encourages recovery through working the Twelve Steps of AA.
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Collin County is an organization that allows and enables young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens through after school programs, summer programs and athletics.
Frisco Arts is a nonprofit, community-based organization committed to building a stronger, more creative Frisco with hopes to advance through arts advocacy, accessible programming and student scholarships, supporting the economic growth and cultural identity of Frisco.
Frisco’s Chamber of Commerce serves as an advocate for the business community, implementing ideas and maintaining and strengthening a strong business environment. As an organization with more than 1,300 member businesses, it provides services to the growing, bustling economy in Frisco and the surrounding area.
While many do not perceive Frisco as a community with needs, Frisco Family Services has, for 24 years, helped members of our community who are facing hunger, homelessness and other urgent needs improve their quality of life and achieve self-sufficiency. This organization has a summer lunch program, a community garden, a food pantry and countless ways members of the community can get involved and volunteer.
Have a green thumb? Frisco has a Garden Club that is the oldest civic organization in the city, and its members work hard to beautify the city and provide public outreach. The Frisco Garden Club participates in the beatification of many civic projects and is a club of novices and experts.
The Frisco Women’s League is an organization that aims to support surrounding communities through service, fundraising, friendship and volunteering. Membership is open to all women in Frisco who are at least 21 years of age.
Just as Frisco was built on a rock-solid foundation, the Heritage Association of Frisco serves the city and its developers as a resource for identifying historic sites and the preservation of Frisco’s rich history. The Heritage Association was incorporated in the state of Texas as a nonprofit organization in 1998, and is managed today by an all-volunteer staff.
LifeTalk Resource Center provides women, men, students and families with compassionate, comprehensive and high-quality health care. LifeTalk is a fully-licensed community care clinic offering services to those who may be facing unplanned pregnancy by staff willing to offer a safe place to ask questions and get answers.
We love to help others here in Frisco, and Frisco hosts two Rotary Clubs — the Sunrise Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Frisco. Both share the mission to provide service to others, promote integrity and advance world understanding, goodwill and peace through its fellowship of business, professional and community leaders. Frisco’s clubs are made up of hard-working professionals who give back through many organizations. The Rotary Club of Frisco manages the Frisco Rotary Farmers’ Market.
The Miracle League of Frisco is a special organization that brings organized sports to kids. It provides every child the opportunity to play sports while providing a positive experience for special needs children ages 5-19. The Miracle League offers baseball, soccer, bowling, football, basketball, track and even golf.
With as many outstanding organizations as Frisco has, it is easy to find a way to get plugged in around the city, whether it is through membership in an organization or serving the community through volunteering and simply giving back.
Museums
If you have lived in Texas during summer months for more than five minutes, going, seeing and doing can be quite a task in the 100-degree heat, which makes our unique museums even that much better this time of year!
Frisco has a rich history with much to be celebrated, and our Heritage Association has done a magnificent job in the preservation of Frisco’s history and it shows at the Heritage Center and Museum! A visit to the Heritage Center provides a glimpse of what life was like for the earliest settlers of this area, especially regarding how they lived, worked and played. Exhibits invite visitors to delve into the rich history of the area while exploring historic buildings, a steam locomotive, a wooden caboose and more. Every third Sunday, there are free Open House events from 1-4 p.m. sponsored by the Frisco Heritage Association.
Just a stone’s throw away, the Museum of the American Railroad provides exhibits and educational programs year-round. The museum currently maintains interim offices, exhibits and retail at the Frisco Discovery Center, while its Frisco site is under construction. The museum collects artifacts and materials from the railroad industry to exhibit. Summer Walking Tours of the museum’s rolling stock site are available Wednesday-Friday at 11 a.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. through August 18.
Also in the vicinity at the Frisco Discovery Center is the National Videogame Museum (NVM) where visitors learn about the videogame industry’s rich history, where it is heading next and how enthusiasts can be a part of it.
Want a two-for-one? The Sci-Tech Discovery Center is in the same building! Sci-Tech is a hands-on learning environment that inspires discovery and innovation through the exploration of science, math and technology for kids of all ages. The center offers permanent and traveling exhibits, summer programs, educational programs, special events and facility rentals.
If art and sculpture is more on your museum radar, then the Texas Sculpture Garden is sure to speak to your heart, as Craig Hall’s vision for the display serves as a living extension of his desire to make art accessible for everyone. Mr. Hall dedicated the front four acres at HALL Park’s entrance to showcase a significant collection of more than 40 works of contemporary sculpture produced by artists living and working in Texas.
Athletic Venues
Frisco loves sports, and we have incredible athletic venues to prove it! We have as much pride in our teams as we do their facilities!
If you have driven north on the Tollway into Frisco, there is no way you missed the breathtaking architecture of Dr Pepper Ballpark, home to the Frisco RoughRiders, a Class AA Minor League baseball team and one of Frisco’s favorite summertime hangouts. With a capacity of more than 10,000, the ballpark features a lazy river pool in the outfield, and aside from the incredible exterior, the park lends itself to 26 luxury suites, bullpens built right into the stands and even members-only areas. The RoughRiders’ schedule continues through the first weekend of September, and games are just good ole’ family-friendly fun.
Just across the street, you will find Dr Pepper Arena, which is home to the Texas Legends basketball team and where the Dallas Stars practice! The facility hosts a wide variety of events such as concerts, family shows and sporting events, and even ice skating in the neighboring ice rink.
The newest and most notable athletic venue to join Frisco is The Star, the new headquarters and home of the Dallas Cowboys. This state-of-the-art, 510,000-square-foot indoor athletic facility is shared by the Dallas Cowboys, the City of Frisco and the FISD’s high schools. The Ford Center at The Star boasts one indoor and two outdoor (one turf and one natural grass) National Football League (NFL) and University Interscholastic League (UIL) compliant practice fields. The Star is now also home to yet another professional sports team, the Dallas Rattlers, a major league lacrosse team.
FieldhouseUSA is another premier Frisco athletic venue where athletes from around the country converge. This 144,000-square-foot facility is a mecca for competitive and recreational sports, as it features 12 full-sized basketball and volleyball courts, as well as indoor soccer and football turf. FieldhouseUSA offers year-round league play in team sports like basketball, soccer, volleyball and flag football, as well as programs for individuals such as performance training, sports camps, birthday parties and more.
For more sporty fun, head over to the Frisco Athletic Center, an award-winning, family-focused fitness and aquatic facility located at the southeast corner of Preston Road and Wade Boulevard (yes — the waterslide you can see from Preston Road). This facility boasts more than 100,000 square feet of indoor wellness opportunities and more than 350,000 gallons of water. The Frisco Athletic Center offers updated fitness equipment, indoor and outdoor water features, as well as courts, locker rooms and childcare.
Home to FC Dallas, the professional MLS soccer club, Toyota Stadium and Toyota Soccer Center is a 145-acre multipurpose sports and entertainment facility located at the intersection of Main Street and Dallas North Tollway. It is the home stadium for FC Dallas and hosts the FCS Championship Game, the Frisco Bowl and a variety of concerts, tournaments and other events. Toyota Stadium is getting a facelift and a new addition, too! As Part of a $55 million renovation, the National Soccer Hall of Fame (NSHOF) will call Toyota Stadium home and will contain two components: The NSHOF Experience and the NSHOF Club. The NSHOF Experience will honor the past and present, featuring interactive exhibits, iconic soccer memorabilia and will serve as home for Hall of Fame induction ceremonies, beginning in 2018. The NSHOF Club includes 3,200 lower level seats and 250 upper level seats that will be sold as season ticket memberships for all FC Dallas home matches.
Just north of Toyota Stadium lies Warren Sports Complex, which features lit basketball courts, youth athletic fields for baseball, softball, soccer and football, as well as lit tennis and sand volleyball courts and running trails.
Frisco is not just home to professional sports teams, but a lot of up-and-coming, aspiring athletes who are blessed to be able to utilize Frisco’s one-of-a-kind athletic venues.
Business Centers
Frisco is booming with businesses both big and small. HALL Park is a 16-building office area that boasts 2.5 million square feet of office space surrounded by breathtaking sculptures, walking trails, green space and more. Home to companies big and small, HALL Park celebrates a diverse group of companies across a number of industries and has flourished since its first building was complete in 1997.
Just up the road, next door to The Star, Frisco Station is on its way to completion and will be Frisco’s newest development to house 1.5 million square feet and 27 acres of office space. Upon completion, this addition is projected to fit almost 15,000 business professionals who will be able to utilize the unmatched amenities including urban living, shopping, entertainment, a variety of exciting dining options and more. Frisco Station’s master plan includes a variety of leasing and build-to-suit office opportunities.
A little further north lies Frisco Square, a popular slice of Frisco that offers a variety of restaurants, specialty shops and access to entertainment. Frisco’s City Hall and offices for Collin County are located in the heart of Frisco Square, as well. This mixed-use development serves as host to popular events year-round!
Frisco Park 25 has now entered construction and seeks to fulfill the demand for sites to accommodate industrial and tech/flex office space in Frisco. Frisco Park 25 sits off the northwest corner of Preston Road and Rockhill Parkway. While businesses that are part of Frisco Park 25 will vary, use for buildings will span from corporate spaces and headquarters to manufacturing and warehouse operations. It is estimated there will be more than two million square feet of developed space at build out.
Business is a big part of Frisco’s growth, popularity and lifeblood, and the development we continue to see is nothing short of amazing. With numerous business parks already established and some well on their way, business opportunities continue to look bright in Frisco.
For Families
Frisco is a city built around adventure and opportunity for local families!
Frisco has some of the best parks and outdoor spaces in North Texas and the Parks and Recreation Department takes good care in ensuring families have safe, fun spots to spend time together. The City of Frisco manages 40 parks and sites around the city that total more than 1,300 acres of land. Area parks have a little something for everyone whether it is sports, nature, playgrounds or walking and hiking trails. Neighborhood parks are smaller in nature than larger community parks and are open from 30 minutes prior to sunrise until 30 minutes after sunset. Community parks are larger and are generally open from 30 minutes prior to sunrise until midnight.
For some indoor family fun, check out the Frisco Family YMCA, where families can spend time together getting fit and doing things they love. The YMCA offers various sports, day camps, summer camps, nutrition and wellness coaching, childcare and offers kids a safe, supportive environment through values-based programs.
Entertainment
Whether you are 25 and single, 35 with three kids or 60 with an empty nest, when it comes to unique and exciting entertainment, Frisco does not disappoint. Frisco is the proud home of numerous entertainment hot spots, all of which attract residents across any life stage!
The Entertainment District at The Star is the perfect place to shop, dine and bring the family to experience the Dallas Cowboys-themed campus. The Star is a one-stop-shop for family fun (think big screen overlooking a mini turf field little ones can run around on) where patrons enjoy patios with views, great food and delicious restaurants.
Cinemark Frisco Square and XD is another popular spot to cool off in the summer and catch the latest movies. This popular theater features multiple screens, stadium seating and an XD screen, which is the theater’s largest wall-to-wall theater screen with surround sound.
Another premier theater sits inside Stonebriar Centre. Nestled on the third floor of the mall, AMC Stonebriar 24 features an IMAX theater and RealD 3D theaters. Patrons of age can even grab a drink at MacGuffin’s Bar before catching their movie.
Another unique family day or date night spot is Strikz, a family-owned and operated entertainment center that offers 43,000 square feet of bowling, billiards, laser tag, dining and arcade game fun! Strikz offers party and event spaces, as well as specials for the family.
If kids need to burn off energy, head to Jump!Zone where they can play on massive indoor inflatable slides, obstacle courses and bounce houses.
To turn the fear factor up a notch, iFly Indoor Skydiving will be your next stop, if it is not already on your Frisco bucket list! Fliers are trained and able to experience skydiving, minus the whole airplane part, as they float on a wall-to-wall cushion of air in a state-of-the-art flight chamber with an instructor.
Entertainment options continue at Main Event, a venue that offers wall-to-wall fun with bowling, laser tag and more than 100 games, as well as handcrafted food and a bar.
Shopping
Visitors from all over come to Frisco for our expansive shopping options!
One of the most notable, and probably the most popular, is Stonebriar Centre, where visitors can find the hottest trends and specialty stores in addition to great food and entertainment options. From Nordstrom and the LEGO store to a huge indoor carousel, Stonebriar Centre covers all bases with more than 150 stores and restaurants.
Across Gaylord Parkway lies the Centre at Preston Ridge, an expansive shopping area with more than 115 stores ranging from apparel and electronics to home furnishings and accessories. Where there is shopping, restaurants are never far away, and the Centre at Preston Ridge has some of Frisco’s most popular restaurants.
The Shops at Starwood are nestled neatly on the southwest corner of Lebanon Road and the Dallas North Tollway where visitors are treated to shopping, dining, health and wellness shops, personal and home fashion and unique dining experiences. The Shops at Starwood just completed an expansion, so now it offers even more fun for shoppers.
Frisco’s RAIL District (Historic Downtown) encourages patrons and visitors to “shop local,” as many stores and restaurants are locally-owned and operated! From Randy’s Steakhouse and Eight11 Place to Twisted Simplicity, Patti Ann’s Flowers and the Blushing Bride Boutique, there are great options to check out as you stroll the quaint, welcoming streets.
When coming into Frisco, you cannot miss one of the most notable and popular shopping spots, IKEA! This Swedish shopping mecca features a restaurant along with its showroom and warehouse. If you have not been, go!
City Services
The City of Frisco does a phenomenal job of taking care of residents through various services.
New residents can establish water/trash services by going to City Hall to set up an account or by downloading an application and mailing or faxing it to City Hall. Trash/recycling carts will be delivered within five business days.
Frisco’s Animal Services provides responsive care and control of animals while ensuring safety. Animal Services can be contacted with concerns Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Frisco Convention and Visitors Bureau celebrates and promotes all Frisco is and will become by helping newcomers and visitors explore the city, find things to do and see, as well as help people navigate the city through wayfinding signs.
The Frisco Economic Development Corporation (FEDC) operates as a Texas nonprofit corporation led by a seven-member board of directors appointed by the Frisco City Council. The FEDC helps create jobs and economic opportunities while helping facilitate major economic developments across the city. Their work has resulted in more than 350 projects and more than 78,000 jobs.
The Frisco Police Department is first class. Our police men and women serve the community through a commitment to promote responsibility and community. Frisco residents can text “FRISCOPD” anonymous tips to 847411 and the police department invites residents to register their home surveillance cameras with their Operation SafeCam program that allows the department to utilize residents’ home security cameras in the event they need to investigate a crime or incident. Residents can use the mobile app to report issues, find community resources and access police contact information.
The Frisco Fire Department is top-notch in serving the community and keeping residents safe. In an effort to help educate little ones, Frisco’s Fire Safety Town, a literal “mini Frisco” with small buildings that resemble places around town, provides year-round safety education classes to teach kids how to prevent injuries and stay safe. Frisco’s Fire Safety town is a fantastic way to ensure children are knowledgeable while giving them a great learning experience.
