Angelia Pelham defeated Jennifer White in the June 5 runoff election following a hotly contested campaign for Frisco City Council Place 3.
According to results provided by the city of Frisco, a total of 13,289 votes were cast during the election (8,914 of those were early votes, while 4,375 votes were cast on Election Day).
In the runoff election, Ms. Pelham received 7,045 votes (53.01 percent) and Dr. White garnered 6,244 votes (46.99 percent).
“Frisco, you came out in record numbers and your votes spoke volumes,” Ms. Pelham wrote in a June 6 post on her campaign’s Facebook page. “Thank you for having the courage to vote your convictions. This victory was not just for me but for ALL of Frisco. I’m looking forward to serving you all as your next council member.”
Place 3 on the council was open as Council Member Will Sowell had reached term limits. In the May 1 General Election, four candidates were on the ballot to replace him. However, as none of the candidates captured more than 50 percent of the votes, the two with the highest vote totals — Ms. Pelham and Dr. White — moved on to the runoff.
Dr. White took to social media late Saturday evening to address her defeat. “The results were not what we hoped for, and while I am very disappointed, I want to thank so many people who helped me and supported my campaign and prayed for me,” she wrote. “I am so grateful for so many wonderful people who gave of their time and resources to help my campaign. … Congratulations to Angelia Pelham and I wish her well in serving the city we both love. I will continue to stay involved and care very deeply about Frisco.”
Also on Saturday evening, Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney took to Facebook to congratulate Ms. Pelham on the victory. “I know she will do amazing things for this city and I look forward to serving with her. … Contested elections are always hard and filled with passion but Frisco has always come together after elections to move forward with the great work in front of us.”
