In the sports world, goat is an acronym used to describe athletes who are considered to be the greatest of all time.
G.O.A.T.’s Arena Sports Bar, on FM 423 near Main Street in Little Elm, has taken this moniker to heart in delivering truly great beverages and food to hungry diners.
I recently ventured to G.O.A.T.’s, which opened earlier this year, for lunch with a friend. First impressions of this new option for sports fans is how open the place is. Numerous TV screens are spread throughout the downstairs area, which features a full bar, tables and booths. There is also an upstairs area with plenty of balcony seating and great views of every screen in the place.
Spread throughout the space are several fitting homages to some of the biggest names in local sports. Former Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith and Dallas Mavericks fan favorite Dirk Nowitzki are featured, as is legendary former Texas Rangers pitcher Nolan Ryan.
One of the more unique features of the restaurant are two sections of seats resembling bleachers (one on each side of the door), which allows diners an area from which to root for their respective favorite teams during big sports events like the Super Bowl.
However, football isn’t the only sport that plays a starring role here: Games featuring local teams including the Cowboys, Mavs, Dallas Stars and the Rangers are regular fixtures at G.O.A.T.’s, along with plenty of college and pro basketball games. Also shown are Mixed Martial Arts and high-profile soccer matches (it’ll be a great spot to check out the 2022 FIFA World Cup starting in late November).
Happy hour is a big deal at G.O.A.T.’s, with plenty of food and drink specials for patrons looking to unwind after a tough day at the office. The beverage menu features cocktails with great names like La Macarena (tequila infused with habanero-lime-mango agave), Ranger’s Smash (peach whiskey with lemon, sugar and mint bitters) and The Maverick (gin infused with strawberries, lemon, sugar and sparkling wine), as well as traditional cocktails like Bloody Marys and Hurricanes, along with plenty of alcohol-infused seltzers. The bar also has an impressive selection of beers on tap including such local favorites as Deep Ellum IPA and Revolver Blood & Honey. I opted for Shiner Bock while my friend went with Modelo.
A wide array of tantalizing appetizers is available including chicken wings, crab cake balls, dynamite shrimp, fried deviled eggs, fried pickles and meatballs with marinara sauce. We went with the cheese curds — bite-sized morsels of cheese perfectly fried and served with both marinara and ranch dressing — as well as the chicken wings, which are drenched in hot sauce and served with celery, carrots and ranch. Both apps earned an enthusiastic thumbs up from us.
The Halftime Flatbreads selections include margherita, pepperoni and a meat lover’s version. We were drawn to the Prime Time Burgers and the Fried Chicken Sandwich, a large breaded and fried piece of chicken served with cheese on a brioche bun. I went with the Bacon & Queso Blanco Cheeseburger. The mammoth sandwich boasts such an abundance of white queso (with perfectly crisp bacon) that I had to eat it with a fork. Both sandwiches were served with plenty of fresh French fries. (Other side items include cheese fries, parmesan truffle fries and bacon macaroni and cheese.)
Although G.O.A.T.’s is a sports bar through and through, it has several upscale menu items including salmon, penne pasta and lamb lollipops. Salads are also available including the Hail Mary (named, of course, for the greatest play in football). For those who still have room left for dessert (which we did not), there’s a Molten Lava Cake with a liquid chocolate center, and a classic cheesecake.
The next time you’re wondering where to watch your favorite team’s latest game, consider giving G.O.A.T.’s Arena Sports Bar a shot. There isn’t a bad seat in the house, and with plenty of thirst-quenching beverages, dishes substantial enough to satisfy even the heartiest of appetites and first-class service, visiting this sports bar — where customers are treated like they’re the greatest of all time — may be the best decision you make all year, if not of all-time.
