p>The veritable workhorse of the dessert world (or maybe they’re snacks?), cookies are capable of quickly and completely satiating even the strongest sweet-tooth cravings. Whether soft or chewy, crispy or tender, they can be baked in a seemingly endless assortment of shapes, sizes and flavors. From reliable, old-fashioned chocolate chip cookies to high-falutin French macrons, there is quite literally a cookie out there to satisfy everyone.</p
p>Call them what you will – a biscuit, galletta or biscotto – but in any language, cookies are the ultimate comfort food. Need proof? International market research firm TOP Data reported that demand for cookies grew by nearly 32 percent worldwide (up 25 percent in the U.S.) during the pandemic, with one in five Americans surveyed saying they ate more than three cookies per day on average.</p
p>Who among us dares to deny the unmatched versatility of even the humblest cookie? Equally delicious whether dunked in milk, coffee or tea, they can be eaten one at a time warm out of the oven or by the handful from a cardboard box. They are basis for a slew of other sweet treats (we’re looking at you, ice cream sandwiches). And if you aren’t a sucker for one of those giant, ooey-gooey cookie cakes, sorry, but we can’t be friends. </p
p>So-called gourmet cookies have been experiencing a sort of renaissance as of late. Shops dedicated to the often-oversized delights – most made from goodness-packed, chunky dough, schmeared with delectably fluffy frosting or artfully decorated by hand and gilded with an assortment of toppings – have opened their doors in Frisco and neighboring North Texas cities in recent years. Here’s what’s cooking, er, baking at a few of these sweets spots.</p

p>This bakery, which also has locations in Prosper and Dallas, bakes cookies in more than 14 flavors daily including Coconut, Raspberry Lemon, Peanut Butter Bar and its original Old Fashioned sugar cookie topped with a pink, vanilla-flavored frosting. A top-seller is the Cookie Dough Cookie, boasting a chocolate chip cookie base topped with cookie dough-flavored frosting and a chocolate ganache drizzle. The Cookie Rack has gained a solid following for its signature, two-tier “number” and “letter” cakes – large, shaped cookies suited for celebrating birthdays and other occasions. The top layer can be customized with a choice of cookies and candies.</p

p>Situated in a former ‘60s-era home in Frisco’s historic Rail District, Sweets on a Stick’s menu includes decorated sugar cookies, macrons, cookie cakes, “dipped and decorated” Oreos and other individually wrapped treats that may be ordered ahead for pick up. Owner and head cookie decorator Nicki Cooley bakes goodies in seasonal flavors including Mulled Cider, Peppermint Fudge and Gingerbread Oatmeal Cookie. More than a dozen flavors of cake pops are also available.</p

p>Husband-and-wife team Marissa and Jeff Allen (he’s a former offensive lineman with the Kansas City Chiefs) founded this bakery in April 2020 – the same year it landed a coveted spot on Oprah Winfrey’s Favorite Things list in O Magazine. Cookie Society’s 4-ounce cookies are made with real butter and other quality ingredients that work to create a “rich homemade taste, crispy outer shell and chewy center.” Alongside its signature Chocolate Chip cookie, seasonal flavors such as gingersnap and peppermint will be featured this month. Business is booming at Cookie Society, which is slated to open a second location in Addison early next year.</p

p>Slick TikTok videos have made this cookie chain a viral sensation (with 3.1 million followers and counting). The McKinney store opened in August (others are in Plano and Allen). Selections from its innovative menu that rotates weekly – including such recent flavors as Dulce de Leche, Pumpkin Cake and Pecan Pie – are served warm or chilled in Crumbl’s signature pink boxes at its 260-plus bakeries in three dozen states.</p
