Cindy Johnson, interviewed in our April article “Fresh from the Farm,” attended the University of Illinois for her undergraduate degree in communications and history and later for her master’s degree in business administration. Mrs. Johnson currently manages the market for the Frisco Rotary Farmers and does consultant work for local non-profits. Throughout her career, she has advocated buying local and knowing personally who grows your food, as well as experimenting with new tastes. Before working with the Frisco Rotary Farmers Market, Mrs. Johnson worked at Texas Instruments for 20 years and Fujitsu for three years.
In addition to Mrs. Johnson’s career, she has earned many honorable awards. In third grade, she won a statewide essay contest on the topic of Arbor Day, became the National Merit Scholar in high school, won a fellowship award for a Ph.D. paper on “X Inefficiency in the US Steel Industry,” was a finalist with her team at Texas Instruments for their two projects toward the Computerworld/Smithsonian Technology Award, received her nonprofit management certificate from the Center for Nonprofit Management and SMU, qualified as a Certified Fundraising Executive and was one of the top 25 businesswomen from McKinney in 2013.
Besides Mrs. Johnson’s work life and many accomplishments, Mrs. Johnson is married to her husband, Ron, who is the senior vice president at Morgan Stanley. In addition, they have two sons, Stephen, who is 27, and Robert, who is 29, and a granddaughter, Harlee, who is five. Some may not know that during her senior year in high school, Mrs. Johnson was voted Miss Jingle Bells. “I received a tiara, got to ride in an open convertible for the Christmas parade and was Santa’s helper at the local shopping center.”
